IELTS One Skill Retake: Rules, Eligibility and Fee

IELTS One Skill Retake lets you retake one section — Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking — instead of the whole test. It is only available if your original test was IELTS on computer, and you must book and take the retake within 60 days of that test. You can use it once for each original test, and not every organisation accepts it.

Last checked

The facts on this page were last checked against official sources in September 2026. Fees and rules change, so confirm with the official source before you book or apply.

How One Skill Retake works

  1. Take the full IELTS on computer test and receive your results.
  2. Choose the one section you want to improve: Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking.
  3. Book and sit the retake within 60 days of your original test.
  4. Receive your retake result, and check with your university, employer or visa authority how it will be considered.
