General Training Task 1 — application letter: Applying for a house-sitting job. This page gives the exam question and a band 9 model answer, with the tone, opening and closing lines that suit the letter. Aim for at least 150 words in about 20 minutes.
You have seen an advertisement for a temporary job that involves looking after a house while the owner is travelling abroad.
Write a letter to the homeowner.
In the letter, you should include:
• Explain why you are interested in the position
• Describe any relevant experience you have
• Say when you would be available to take on this role

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to your advertisement for a house-sitter, which I came across on the community noticeboard at Oakwood Library on 3 June, and I would like to express my strong interest in the position.
I am keen to take on this role because I work remotely and therefore have a flexible schedule that would allow me to be at the property throughout the day. I am also a responsible and conscientious individual who understands the importance of maintaining a home to a high standard while the owner is away. Over the past three years, I have house-sat for two families in the local area, caring for their properties, collecting mail, and looking after pets with no issues reported.
I can provide references from both families and my previous employer upon request. I would be available from 15 July until the end of August, which I believe aligns with the dates in your advertisement, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the position at your convenience.
